A unique opportunity for kids with autism is going on this week in Saint Germain.
Camp Awesum, a week long summer camp for kids with the disorder, started yesterday. The camp lets 40 kids swim, do crafts, and most importantly interact with kids their own age. Each camper's special needs are paid attention to by the staff of counselors. The ratio of campers to counselors is about 4 to 1.
The camp can create lifelong bonds between campers, bonds we learned about when we brought you a special report on autistic children back in May called To Find A Friend.
For more information on Camp AweSum, or how you can help keep the camp going visit their website at www.campawesum.org. Or you can call Camp Director (and parent of an autistic child) Milana Millan at (715) 479-4342.
The camp runs from Sunday (6/25) until Friday (6/30).
