Local pantries are finding it more difficult to help families in need because of increasingly bare shelves due to a dwindling economy. But one area community is trying to make a difference in their town.
This weekend Marshfield residents got together for a flea market at The Homefront to raise money for food pantries at St. Vincent DePaul and First Presbyterian Church.
Vendors donated 5% of their profits at the event to the local pantries. Volunteers at the SOS Food Pantry at The First Presbyterian Church say at this point in time any donations, big or small, will be beneficial.
The church says they served about 1,800 meals last month, which is about 200 more than they did at the same time last year.
