LAC DU FLAMBEAU, Wis. (AP) -- A northern Wisconsin Chippewa tribe troubled by political corruption and financial turmoil has elected a new leader.
Carl W. Edwards is the new president of the Lac Du Flambeau Tribe.
He defeated incumbent Victoria Doud in Tuesday's general election.
The tribe says Edwards had 296 votes, and write-in candidate Betty Jo Graveen had 298.
Doud finished third with 220.
Tribal Vice President Dee Ann Mayo was re-elected.
At the heart of the political turmoil is $50 million in bonds the tribal council sold earlier this year to solve a cash crunch after it sank millions of dollars into investments that have yet to pay off.
One of those investments is a casino boat in Natchez, Mississippi.
