The nominees were so strong the Chamber chose two winners. The Rose Garden Banquet and Catering of Wausau won in the retail category and Preventive Dental Specialties in Weston won the manufacturing award
The award came as quite a surprise to the 11-year-old dental products company that employs just nine workers at their new plant. President David Carroll says he was speechless at the win.
"Some of our competitors would be Oral B and Crest who have unlimited resources," said Carroll.
He says they may be a small business but Preventive Dental Specialties ships products internationally.
They hold a patent on the design of their special infant toothbrush and a modified brush for those with mobile disabilities. The company is starting to test tooth gels for use with their pet toothbrushes. The products will be entirely manufactured in central Wisconsin once they receive a machine to insert the brush bristles next week.
