MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Dane County authorities say three people have been rescued from a sinking boat on Lake Mendota in Madison.
Lt. Joe Sampson says deputies responded to a report of a sinking boat just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday. He says the 15-foot boat started taking on water and sank very quickly in about 13 feet of water about 150 yards off the shore of Governor's Island.
A nearby boater and his passenger saw the boat sink and rescued the three boaters from the water. Sampson says the three were not wearing life jackets and one was unable to swim.
The boat came to rest nearly vertical, with its motor resting on the lake bottom. Deputies were able to tow it to a boat launch.
