Plans for Replacement

Gov. Jim Doyle says he already has prospects in mind to replace former Tourism Secretary Kevin Shibilski.

Shibilski resigned earlier this week for a new job opportunity.

Doyle says he's sorry Shibilski resigned. He wouldn't say if Shibilski was encouraged to resign.

Shibilski has said his resignation had nothing to do with a questionable campaign mailing.

The Capital Times has reported that Doyle was upset by the mailing aimed at keeping Representative Julie Lassa of Stevens Point from running for Shibilski's old Senate seat.

Both Shibilski and Doyle endorsed Lassa's opponent, Alex Paul, in the Democratic primary, which Lassa easily won. Paul recently admitted he helped pay for the mailing, which tried to link Lassa to embattled Senator Chuck Chvala.

Doyle says the position won't be vacant long.
