Trivia Contest Enters Home Stretch

It takes a lot to compete in the world's largest trivia contest.

It takes dedication:

"I don't think Derek's slept yet," said Mike Wiza, a member of the Franklin Street Burnouts trivia team.

"He hasn't showered yet either," Wiza says with a laugh.

It takes commitment:

"You don't have time to shower," Wiza said. "You've got two songs to answer a question."

And of course, it takes support from fellow teammates.

"I just have to stay up, otherwise I'm afraid I'll wake up duct-taped to something," said Derek Bannach, remembering a time when it happened to him one year.

The Franklin Street Burnouts has had nine top 10 finishes. Members say they hope that they can win their tenth top 10 this year, because it's the group's 30th anniversary.

Five hundred teams and 12,000 players are competing in this 34th year of the trivia contest that raises money for the University of Stevens Point radio station.
