STURTEVANT, Wis. (AP) -- A company is marking the 100th anniversary of a Wisconsin product that should be of interest to anyone who's ridden in a boat propelled by an outboard motor.
Ole Evinrude is the man who pioneered that type of motor.
The Evinrude brand is still produced in Sturtevant by Bombardier Recreational Products.
That's where the company is holding Tuesday's celebration.
Among those due to be on hand is Dennis Evinrude. He's the grand nephew of Ole and president of the Antique Outboard Motor Club.
According to Evinrude lore, Ole came up with the idea in 1906 after he went on a picnic on Okauchee Lake with his future wife, and he had to row to shore for ice cream.
In 1909, he successfully tested his first outboard.
