LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) _ A La Crosse woman accused of letting her newborn daughter die and hiding the body in a cooler will stand trial.
La Crosse County Circuit Judge Scott Horne bound 20-year-old Indra Book over for trial Friday after she pleaded not guilty to first-degree intentional homicide and concealing a corpse.
Prosecutors claim Book failed to provide proper care after giving birth in August 2007. She placed the baby in a plastic cooler which later was set out for trash collection and has not been found.
Public defender Vincent Rust has said Book tried to breast-feed the baby but was unsuccessful. He asked Horne to dismiss the homicide charge, but the judge rejected that motion Friday.
Book remains free on $10,000 cash and $40,000 property bonds and returns to court Oct. 7.
