A new report says campaign contributions from executives at a Florida utility company may have swayed Governor Jim Doyle's stance on nuclear power.
The Beloit Daily News says 30 executives from the Florida Power and Light Company contributed almost $24,000 to Governor Doyle's campaign... shortly before Doyle lightened his stance on nuclear energy.
The Governor was in Wausau Wednesday, and took a moment to address the allegations.
He says his stance changed after he asked a task force of scientists, business people and environmentalists suggested ways the state should approach the global warming problem.
"There are so many things in this report, the only thing about Nuclear Power is that we need to look at it. There was a lot about higher fuel standards in the state, a greater commitment to renewable fuels, investments in solar and wind power and bio fuels. I support the report, " says Governor Doyle.
Governor Doyle says there are no plans for Wisconsin to have a nuclear power plant.
The Governor also addressed accusations that he violated the ethics code when a state worker wrote his speech for the Democratic National Convention.
Governor Doyle's being accused of violating the state ethics code and using state resources for personal gain.
The Milwaukee Journal says a state worker allegedly wrote the speech Governor Doyle delivered at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
"Well the staffer didn't write it, I wrote it. I worked on it with a staffer which is perfectly legitimate. I understand Republicans don't like that. This was a chance for me as Governor to speak to a national convention," says Governor Doyle.
He says the speech was a great opportunity for him promote Wisconsin.
He says the convention was a great forum for him to talk about the challenges Wisconsin is facing.
