Locals React to Marshfield Cell Phone Ban
The ban on using cell phones while driving goes into effect Monday, and it has people on both sides of the fence in Marshfield talking. Posted: 5:55 PM Aug 31, 2008Reporter: Matt Behrens Email Address: mbehrens@wsaw.com |

Monday marks the beginning of enforcement of Marshfield's new ban on using cell phones while driving, and the ordinance has everyone in town talking.
The ban states any drivers caught talking on their cell phones within Marshfield city limits will be served with a fine of $64.90, but people we spoke with Sunday have mixed feelings about how effective the ban will be.
Tim Mayer feels the ban won't change anything, saying, "Having a bluetooth headset in, I can get just as lost in conversation with the thing in my ear as holding a phone to my head."
But Carol Rinehart feels the ban will make Marshfield safer, saying, "You get enough distractions while driving, and to have that added one, it's an accident waiting to happen."
The ordinance goes into effect Monday, but does offer exceptions for drivers with hands-free headsets, C.B. radios, or those making 911 calls.
