Sixteen teams hit the sand Saturday night, for the Lincoln County Humane Society's "Set for Pets" volleyball tournament at Victory Lane in Merrill.
But it's far from just a good time, as half of all the registration fees went directly to the Humane Society.
Organizers say the Humane Society has several dogs and cats in need of care, and they hope the event will provide much needed funding to cover the animals' food, shots, and other medical expenses.
And while volleyball may seem like a unique choice for a fundraiser, organizers say they chose it to tie it into one of the Humane Society's demands for pet adoption.
Janice Graap, who organized the event says, "The big thing for the Humane Society is before you adopt a pet, they say, 'Are you set for a pet?' So we just thought volleyball set, are you set for a pet, so set for pets."
Graap says the volleyball roster filled up quickly, but even those who didn't play were able to help, as a dollar from every pitcher the bar sold also went to help the Humane Society.
The shelter is hoping to raise around a thousand dollars.
