Renovating Referendum

Members of Marshfield's Board of Education are asking voters to vote yes to a $31 million referendum. The money would be used to make needed repairs to several buildings in the district. The rest of it would be used to replace two buildings, including the district's junior high school.

"There are a lot of problems with the infrastructure of the building," said Paul Rodenbeck, the district's buildings and grounds manager. "The reason we decided to build a new one is the cost to remodel this is almost the cost of building a new one."

If the referendum passes on April 1, residents in the 2003-2004 school year will pay an extra 29 cents per $1,000 of equalized valuation, or $29 on a home valued at $100,000. They would pay 58 cents per $1,000 in 2004-2005, and 87 cents per $1,000 for the next 18 years.
