The Shawano County Sheriff's Department says a home in the Town of Hutchins is a total loss after a fire Monday.

Crews from Mattoon, Birnamwood, Bowler, and Norwood responded to the scene on Meadow Road just after 5:30 p.m.

The homeowners, who were returning home from vacation, arrived about the same time to find their house engulfed in flames.

The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
