Some local college students are getting a unique opportunity to help some kids in summer school.
The co-eds are part of the VISTA Volunteer program. They spend five hours a day working with young kids.
They do intensive one on one reading lessons, help with language and writing.
Most of volunteers are from this area and they say working in this environment is very rewarding.
When the school bell rings, the day isn't over for the VISTA Volunteers. In the afternoon they work on a community wide literacy project.
