Some experts say driving while talking on a cell phone is just as dangerous as drunk driving....which is one of the reasons, starting Sept. 1st, Marshfield is banning the use of cell phones while driving unless a hands-free device is used.
An area cellular phone representative says as a result, there's been a lot more interest in accessories and hands-free technology.
"I think it is a good thing for business. It's certainly a good thing for safety. We've always promoted that users are using their devices safely," said John Schult, a business sales manager for Cellcom.
Shult says most newer phones have the bluetooth technology available, and there are several options for users who want to go hands-free.
He does warn customers will have to spend a little money, anwhere from $15 to hundreds.
Anyone caught talking and driving without a hands-free device will pay a fine of $145.50.
