A number of area businesses have said goodbye to valuable employees off to serve in the military. In Marathon County, the Sheriff's Department has already lost two employees to deployment. They have had to pull overtime shifts to fill in the gaps for the missing employees.
The County says they go above what's required in terms of continuing health and pension benefits for deployed employees.
Director of Employee Resources Frank Matel says the Federal law gives those in the military peace of mind. He says it's difficult on the employer's side finding ways to fill the jobs temporarily but they're happy to support the troops by holding their jobs.
