Wartime Effect on Military Recruitment

Sergeant Anthony Farisa with the Marine Corps Recruiting office in Wausau says there are actually slightly fewer recruits signing up for the military.

He says although a recruit signing up today wouldn't be able to start boot camp until the fall, the war is on the minds of families he works with.

"I think it's a little more difficult dealing with the parents and dealing with their concerns of war," Farisa said.

His region typically recruits about 50 into the Marines each year and roughly three per month. That number is down somewhat right now.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Army also says they are not seeing a noticeable increase in recruitment numbers since the war broke out.
