WESTON, WI -- How can you improve on perfect? That's exactly what the DC Everest volleyball team is looking to do.
The "green machine" is back at work looking to do big things after an outstanding season last year. The Evergreens are coming off a perfect Valley season, yep, 16-0. And 20-0 in the regular season.
"We're a new team," said senior Kaitlin Heller. "And even though we only lost three players, there's a new atmosphere and new attitude here. So, we are working really hard to get there. We decided that we all wanted to pick it up and take it up a notch. Get to state first of all and try our best to win it."
"It's going to be kind of nerve-wracking having everybody gun after us," added fellow senior Alison Charles. "But, I know if we work hard, stay positive, we can do anything and accomplish anything we put our minds to."
The 'Greens return 4 of their starters from a team that made it to the state tournament for the first time since 1995. Their semifinal loss was the only defeat of their 2007 season.
"I was really lucky in a way that, you know, they didn't make it to the finals," head coach Taryn Vaughn said. "And that is something they remember on their own. So they weren't satisfied taking third in state. They're ready to finish number one."
The Evergreens open their season Tuesday, September 2 when they host a quadrangular.
