Hundreds of kids in Antigo spent Saturday doing activities to support U.S. troops. This after the start of the war put a stop to the school's original plans for a field trip to Madison.
"They advised us not to come because of the picketing and the lock down on much of the state capitol," said Beth Meyer, who works with the kids at Antigo Middle School.
Kids spent Saturday morning making handprint flags to post around the city of Antigo. They also made ribbons for display and decorated cards for soldiers.
"We're really lucky the community really pulled together," Meyer said.
She said she and the other volunteers only had two days to organize the event.
Several local businesses either donated the materials or offered them at a discount for the projects. Kids took part in 10 different activities throughout the day, and their work can now brighten the community while troops are at war.
