The Everest Metro Police Department said they were investigating a series of burglaries at the Weston Wendy's when they found evidence of an elaborate scheme to steal electricity.

Managers at the Wendy's located 2805 Schofield Avenue, reported that when they arrived to open the restaurant on June 6, a drive thru window was broken and the doors to the restaurant were unlocked. Police said it was the fourth break-in to the building in three weeks.

Ker Thao, 28, an employee of Wendy's was immediately identified as a suspect.

According to court documents, authorities obtained a search warrant for the Sternberg Avenue apartment of Thao, looking for Wendy's money bags and receipts.

Court documents did not specify what items relating to the burglary were found in Thao's apartment.

However, inside, they say they found ½'' hole through the carpet and the sub-floor. They said there were numerous extension cords to each room and it appeared the apartment was powered from an extension cord through the floor.

According to court documents, the apartment was powered from a light socket that had a plug in on it in Thao’s basement storage unit.

Thao's landlord told police Thao did not have permission to drill through the carpet, subfloor, and into the storage unit. The landlord said prior to the incident, Thao had strung an extension cord into the hallway to receive electricity, which the landlord unplugged and told Thao it was illegal.

Thao remains behind bars on a $5,000 cash bond.

He's charged with burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and bail jumping as result of both cases. He'll return to court June 18 to learn if the case will head to trial.
