Unfortunately most of us are used to getting a little bit of spam in our e-mail inboxes, but now we’re starting to see them in our cell phone inboxes and some Northcentral Wisconsin residents aren’t happy.

“You don’t see a lot of it, but it is potential for them to get through from time to time,” said John Schult, Cellcom’s Marketing & Sales manager.

Some residents are upset because they are being charged for the incoming texts they don”t want and others, like Steve Bergman, say it is the content of the messages he and his family are receiving. He, his wife and daughter received a message from “Saucy Doll” that directed them to an inappropriate website.

“What concerns me about it is the fact that it’s a pornographic website they’re trying to steer the kids too,” Bergman said. “As a parent it doesn’t make me feel very good knowing my kids are being solicited with this kind of garbage.”

So what do you do when you find your phone is receiving this kind of garbage?

You should call your cellular provider and tell them about the spam, just like Bergman did, so they can add it to their filter lists.

Another way to prevent spam on your cell is to avoid subscribing to any sort of service where a company regularly sends you texts.
