Marshfield residents are recognizing the sacrifices their area firefighters have made over the years, and they're keeping their city beautiful at the same time.

With help from the Wood County Master Gardeners, local firefighters planted a new tree this week at Strohman Park.

The park is dedicated to Marvin Strohman, who is the only firefighter to die in the line of duty in Marshfield.

Funding for the park comes from the local firefighters union, who maintain the park themselves. And local firefighters say it's something they don't mind doing either.

Pete Fletty, a Firefighter Paramedic for the city of Marshfield says, "We're very happy the city gave us this property to help remind us of Marvin and others who have fought fires before us and since moved on."

Fletty says they hope to also replace another tree in the park and also add a sprinkler system sometime soon.
