Fire Crews say an apartment fire on the 1300 block of Townline Road in Wausau may have been started by a child playing with a lighter.

They say the fire heavily damaged 2 units and caused smoke damage in at least 4 others.

One tenant of the apartment tells us she was downstairs when she heard the smoke alarms go off shortly before 7 this evening. When she went upstairs she says she could see flames coming from under her bed.

The tenant tells us one of her children had a neighbor call 911, as she tried to put out the flames, but was unsuccessful. That's when she and her children ran outside to safety as fire crews arrived.

She says she's been told she will not be able to stay in her apartment tonight. She also says she is not sure if her cats made it out of the apartment.
