It's a unique opportunity for the community to come together to honor, respect and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute, which includes an almost exact replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall...is right in North Central Wisconsin.

Since 1997, every week it's been in another city and another state.

And thanks to dozens of supporters, this week the Traveling Tribute's home is right here in Wausau.

The Vietnam memorial wall is an 80 percent replica in size of the popular memorial in Washington D.C., with 100 percent of the names of those who have died in the war.

But it's more than Vietnam vets who are being remembered here.

All American wars fought by American soldiers are represented...including the most recent.

The Cost of Freedom memorial is made of golden dog tags with the names of the men and women killed in the Iraq War.

One soldier says some, he recognizes.

"It's hard to explain emotionally, like what you feel but when you see it, in a display, it's personal. It's not just a memorial it's very personal," said CDT Jeremy Crochiere, of the 428th Combat Engineers.

The Traveling Tribute will be on display here on Riverside Drive throughout the weekend. It's open 24 hours a day.

Everything will wrap up Sunday at 8 p.m. with a candlelight vigil, taps, a prayer and lastly silence...to remember all veterans past and present.

Visitors to the traveling Vietnam Walls leave persoan tributes just as they do at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington. Similarly, the web site named The Virtual Wall at www.VirtualWall.org has thousands of personal remembrances and photographs honoring those who died in Vietnam. The Virtual Wall web site does not accept fees, donations, subscriptions, or advertising in order to honor the fallen.
