Area District Attorneys Brace for Layoffs
Gov. Doyle's proposed budget cuts will hit D.A.'s offices hard, according to a Milwaukee newspaper report. And attorneys say the layoffs could come at the cost of public safety.
Portage County D.A. said that they are already short-staffed and any layoffs could hamper their ability to prosecute crimes.
He said that some lesser offenses would have to be put on the backburner, and that could lead criminals to commit more of those so-called lesser crimes.
