The majority of Wisconsin companies that employ military reservists don't plan to pay them while they're away on duty.

Seventy-one percent of employers here say they don't pay white-collar employees on military duty.

In Wisconsin, 3,800 men and women have been activated so far in anticipation of war against Iraq.

A survey by the non-profit employers group MRA The Management Association finds 42 percent of companies also discontinue health insurance premiums for supervisors and professional employees on active duty.

MRA spokeswoman Jane Berg says military pay for reservists on active duty varies widely. Twenty-two percent of Wisconsin companies supplement employees' military pay so their incomes don't drop.
