To save money, the city of Marshfield is considering asking for voluntary layoffs. This request would be put to any of the more than 200 employees that work for the city. The mayor says workers could take an active part in helping the city save money.

Mayor Mike Meyers says Marshfield is trying to prepare for some big bills in the months ahead.

"We're looking at possibly another increase in health insurance," Meyers said.

The mayor points to an increase in health insurance last year that cost the city $360,000. Meyers says as long as employees don't take more than a month off, they can keep their benefits.
