Some communities in our area say it's not fair the costs of running a local airport should land solely on them.
"It does vary from year to year, but for 2003, we are contributing about $7,000 a year towards the operation and funding of the airport," said Joseph Terry, an administrator for the village of Port Edwards says.
Right now the city of Wisconsin Rapids, town of Grand Rapids and village of Port Edwards pay the costs of running Alexander Field.
Leaders in those communities say they believe it is unfair for the financial burden to come down on three communities, when the airport benefits all of Wood County.
A committee is working on a proposal to the county. Members hope communities within a 50-mile radius of the airport will help share its operation costs.
