MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Sex symbol Jayne Mansfield was looking for eternal rest for her Chihuahua Gallina when she buried her in a Milwaukee area pet cemetery in 1964.
But it turns out nothing lasts forever.
Thistlerose Pet Cemetery and Crematory in Greendale is being sold after closing two years ago.
A number of pet owners are digging up their dogs and cats and moving them to other locations.
One pet owner paid $1,500 for a grave and marker for her Bichon in 2005. Now she's paying nearly $1,000 to move the beloved animal to a new spot.
The handwritten marker for Mansfield's dog has been removed and stored for safekeeping and a letter has been sent to her daughter, "Law and Order" star Mariska Hargitay, asking whether the family wants the casket moved.
Hargitay has not responded so far.
