The Associated Press reports our state has seen a 49 percent increase in electric prices, and a 74 percent jump in natural gas prices over the last decade.
Industry experts blame the rising prices on new power plant construction, high-priced imported power and volatile natural gas rates.
Sen. Rob Cowles and Rep. Phil Montgomery, both Republicans from Green Bay, are working on a bill that would require utilities to make 10 percent of their energy from renewable sources.
It would also set new energy-efficiency standards for public buildings.
They hope to have the bill ready by mid-February.
