A Wausau man is among 16 people indicted by a federal grand jury of conspiring to distribute cocaine in Dodge and Jefferson Counties.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Madison says Johnny Bruce Matthews is being charged with three counts of selling crack cocaine and one count of possession with the intent to sell.

The indictment alleges Matthews, 28, sold crack multiple times earlier this year. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

The U.S. Attorney's Office also says nine Watertown residents took telephone orders from customers and arranged for other people to provide cocaine.

If convicted, they face between 10 years and life in federal prison.

Six Watertown residents and a Janesville resident also were indicted Wednesday on related charges. They're accused of arranging the cocaine distribution and negotiating prices and quantities.

If convicted, they face between five and 40 years in federal prison.

During searches, authorities seized 2 and a half kilograms of cocaine, almost $110,000 in cash and 11 vehicles.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
