Explosion Shuts Down Weston Power Plant

A Monday Morning blast has temporarily shut down Plant 3 at the Weston Power Plant. Four men were near the blast site, but luckily none of them were injured.

Unfortunately, the plant didn't fare as well. The blast damaged one of the six pulverizers. All six are connected, so when one goes down, the whole plant has to be shut down.

There is still no word on when the plant will up and running.

The blast was apparently coal dust igniting. What exactly caused it is still under investigation.

As of now, the fact that the plant is shut down, will not lead to any energy conservation measures. But it is possible, that at some point WPS may ask area residents to cut back on energy use if they feel it's necessary.
