Their wish was that no other family would have to suffer the same loss they did, and now it looks like that wish will be granted.
Mary Gessert was killed when a train crashed into her car nearly two weeks ago.
Her family says it's a tragedy that didn't have to happen, and Rodney Kruenen, the Railroad Commissioner, agrees.
He has now ordered stop signs to be installed at the fatal site and at three other crossings along Highway 13, but the stop signs are only temporary measures.
All four tracks will be relocated within the next seven years, and two others will close.
The town of Spencer has been given a deadline of March 15 to install the stop signs.
