2013 Wausau Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Wisconsin

Updated: Sat 10:45 PM, Feb 23, 2013

More than 500 people turned out Saturday at Sunnyvale Man Made Park in Wausau for the 13th Annual Special Olympics Wisconsin Polar Plunge.

Adam Domino is a member of the Wisconsin Special Olympic Team, competing in bowling, bocce ball and swimming. He's made the plunge a mind boggling 14 times. Saturday, however, Adam was a judge, awarding points to jumpers for best costume, biggest splash and best style. But, in the end, he says it's the athletes who are the real winners.

"All the money that's raised goes toward Special Olympics and all the money that's raised stays in our community," Domino told NewsChannel 7.

There are more than 1,000 Special Olympic athletes from our area alone. Saturday's plunge will help pay for their continued participation in more than 17 different events.

Last year the Polar Plunge raised more than $112,000 for the Special Olympics and organizers say they're on track to beat that amount this year.
