The fall signing period began with a bang as eight athletes inked their futures with schools in four different states.
Merrill's Renee Sladek will be playing Division One basketball for Northern Illinois. Less than a year ago, an ACL tear had her worried about her future. Regardless, the Huskies stood by their forward. She hopes to study speech pathology next fall.
Sticking in Merill, Sladek's teammate Dawn Leland made it official with Minnestoa State- Crookston University where she hopes to study natural resources and get playing time right away.
Going the furthest from home is Assumption's Mary Sigler who hopes to study business at Division II Regis in Denver, where she already joked about not getting to ski or snowboard in the Rockies.
Finally in women's basketball, Amherst's Jaime Pitt is headed to Division II Winona State for their hoops and a degree in psychology.
In baseball, SPASH's Austin Schulfer will continue to be a panther at Division 1 UW-Milwaukee. He wants to learn more about marketing.
Both SPASH's Cal Giese and Tomahawk's Kevin Bolder inked their way to St. Cloud State's baseball program. Giese is hoping to study architecture, while Bolder wants to get into athletic training.
In golf SPASH's Trevor Thomas will head to Marquette to play golf. The Panther senior will study physical therapy and is excited to join a Division 1 program that's rising up the ranks.
