19th Year, Keep the Wreath Green comes back to Wood County

Nationally, over 400 American lose their lives annually in structure fires. They also cause more than $900 million in damage to property.

Wood County Fire Departments are doing their part by marking the 19th year of Keep the Wreath Green.

19 different fire stations have wreaths hung that are completely green adorned with green light bulbs, and each station is hoping to keep it that way.

With the number of structure fires decreasing, Marshfield Fire and Rescue is hoping it continues that way.

Lieutenant Jeff Barth, a fireman from Marshfield Fire and Rescue told us, “We like to think the fire prevention opportunities that we take part throughout the area are what makes the difference for us.”

The county keeps track of where and when the fires are. Once a report is written, a station replaces a green bulb with a red one.

However, firefighters say that there is no rhyme or reason for the number of fires each year. Some years there are more and others barely any.

With your help though, the wreaths will continue to stay green.
