State wildlife officials say a private lab that's reported deer testing positive for Chronic Wasting Disease won't turn over tissue samples for verification.
But Konstance Knox, founder of Wisconsin Viral Research, says the state Department of Natural Resources is reporting false information about the lab and is trying to discredit its work.
Knox says she's received letters from the DNR demanding the lab turn over samples. She says the lab hasn't done so, in part because it's hired to test the samples from kits sold to hunters by Wildlife Support Services.
Knox says she's offered to meet with state officials to explain their results and the lab's methodology, but has received no response.
State officials have disputed the accuracy of the lab's testing since Knox reported last month that three samples in its possession tested positive for CWD.
DNR wildlife director Tom Hauge says samples should be analyzed by a federal lab to check the lab's results.
