WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- The rise in gasoline prices isn't scaring Memorial Day travelers away from Wisconsin's popular state parks.

Tom Blackwood is manager of Peninsula Park in Door County, and he says there hasn't been any rash of cancellations for the weekend that traditionally kicks off the summer vacation season.

The park with its more than 450 campsites is full for the weekend.

It's a similar situation statewide heading into the summer.

Bill Smith is director of state parks for the Department of Natural Resources.

He says advance registrations for summer camping are up 7 percent from last year, despite gas prices near $4 a gallon.

Smith expects that trend to continue all summer.
