The prosecution has called nine witnesses to the stand Monday in the first day of testimony in the trial of a former Wausau police officer accused of trying to kill his wife.

Among them were two of his daughters, Mydawb and Sunshine.

46-year-old Chueng Lee is accused of forcing his estranged wife into a vehicle and deliberately crashing it into a Shawano County bridge in September 2007.

Sunshine testified there were arguments between the Lees prior to the incident and that she was concerned.

She stated Shawano County Deputy Sandra Finger told her Chueng's wife was accusing him of trying to kill her after the accident. However, Finger denies that was the case.

Also testifying Monday was included a Shawano County dispatcher who answered the 911 call and the first two people to drive past the crash scene near Bowler.

Jurors watched the approximate 30-minute dash cam video from the responding deputy's squad car.

Attorneys selected a jury and made opening statements Friday.

A prosecutor said the pressure of debt and divorce led Lee to try and kill his wife. Lee’s attorney said the former police officer will testify in his own defense.

He’s charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, false imprisonment and aggravated battery.

He faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted on the charges.
