A local city is blowing out 150 candles and celebrating this weekend.

Today Stevens Point commemorated its 150th Anniversary of being a city with a parade followed by a picnic and a party at Pfiffner Park.

Stevens Point residents both young and old tell NewsChannel 7 they were so excited to celebrate the history of their city today and also for the parade that featured floats, fire trucks, and police cars.

Spectators say they enjoyed seeing the community show support for such a historic milestone, and also get the chance to hang out with their mayor.

Mayor of Stevens Point, Andrew Halverson says "It’s absolutely gorgeous you look behind me you see 112 floats and its just a great day so were pretty excited and honored its a great way for me to serve and a great time in history to be 150 years old its a remarkable milestone."

The parade was said to be the largest the community has ever seen with more than 100 floats, banners, and posters to celebrate Stevens Point’s crowning achievement of 150 years as a city.

Following today’s parade was a whirlwind of activities that included games and variety of foods for everyone to enjoy.
