WAUPUN, Wis. (AP) -- An inmate due for release from Waupun Correctional Institution in August has died after being found hanging in his cell.

Department of Corrections spokesman John Dipko says 31-year-old Ahmad Kennebrew apparently used a bed sheet tied to a bar on a wall to hang himself. He says staff members entered the cell yesterday morning and provided emergency lifesaving efforts until emergency responders arrived.

Kennebrew was pronounced dead after being taken to Waupun Memorial Hospital.

Dipko says Kennebrew was transferred to the Waupun prison last Thursday. He entered the prison system in November 2006 after violating terms of his community supervision. His record included a conviction in Milwaukee County in 2001 for substantial battery.

Dipko says the death will be the subject of an internal investigation, and the Dodge County Sheriff's Department also has been notified about it.
