Marathon County Administrator Mort McBain is retiring after 33 years of public service. McBain made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at the Marathon County Courthouse in downtown Wausau.

McBain's final day as administrator will be June 30.

He says the main reason he's calling it a career is because he will turn 62 years old, but that it was a difficult decision to make.

Deputy Administrator Brad Karger is expected to take over as administrator on July 1, pending board approval.
