One of the victims of Monday's deadly plane crash near the Stevens Point Municipal Airport has been identified by family members as a 56-year-old man from Green Bay.

Therese McGinn says her 56-year-old husband, Dean McGinn, was the pilot. She says he was on vacation and flew to Stevens Point for no particular reason.

McGinn's son, Tony McGinn, says some problems developed just after the plane took off from the airport and the plane was circling to land again when it crashed at about 5 p.m. The son didn't know who the passenger was.

Stevens Point Police Captain Jim Dowling says the second victim is believed to be a 70-year-old Green Bay resident.

Both bodies will be taken to Madison Tuesday for autopsies.

Tony McGinn says his father learned to fly in the Navy in the late 1970s and had purchased the 1971 Piper about two years ago.

Dean McGinn was a driver for UPS, was an accountant and had a landscaping business.

Dowling says an eye witness saw the plane drop down steeply after takeoff, disappear, then saw a rising cloud of smoke. It's not known which direction they were intending on flying, but it's not believed they had a full tank of gas.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board searched the crash site on Tuesday. They say it will take 6 months to a year to release a factual report. The information they say will help them piece the puzzle together are the pilot's flight history, the maintenance history of the plane, and the weather conditions at the time of the crash.
