A viewer wrote to NewsChannel 7, saying she received a call from a man claiming to be from the "D.A.R.E" program.
He asked for a $22 donation, and in exchange, she'd receive "D.A.R.E" pamphlets and stickers.
When she pressed the man for more information, he became upset and defensive and eventually hanging up.
The Wausau Police Department says "D.A.R.E" is funded through grants and does not do any outside fundraising.
Police say you should get as much information as you can from the caller.
"If you start giving these people the runaround about their business, they'll get frustrated, and they won't want to give out any of that info," says Officer Shawn Fritsch of the Wausau Police Department.
Fritsch says you should not give out any personal information, like addresses, social security or credit card numbers.
If you get a call similar to this, call the Wausau Police Department at 261-7800.
