Doyle Visits Wausau, Budget Concerns Abound

Gov. Jim Doyle's visit to Wausau was supposed to be about appointing new members to his Agriculture and Natural Resources board, but it turned out to be more about education funding and Doyle's cabinet's salaries.

Facing an estimated $2 to $4 billion budget deficit, Doyle continues to claim that he won't have to cut education funding. He does acknowledge that changes will have to be made, but wont' say exactly what those changes will be. He also said that nearly every other state agency is subject to drastic cuts.

Doyle's new cabinet members seem immune to the budget crisis. Eight of Doyle's 11 cabinet members are being paid more than the same positions were paid under the previous governor. One position is seeing an 11 percent pay hike to $125,000.
