People in Marathon County eat, smoke and drink too much. That's according to a six-month study done by local health officials. Two health agencies joined forces to come up with a report on how healthy people are in Marathon County.
They interviewed 50 people about their habits and lifestyles. The director of Wausau's health foundation says they found out binge drinking in the county is a big problem.
"The federal government says only 6 percent of the population should be binge drinking, in any given month," Sharon Fox, the executive director for Wausau's Health Foundation said. "But our data suggests 30 percent of the population in Marathon County is binge drinking in any given month."
About 135 people with an interest in health issues got together Thursday to look at the report. Together, they say they hope to come up with pro-active solutions.
