Filing Electronically

Many state taxpayers who file personal income taxes electronically can now do so for free.

The state has gotten rid of the electronic filing fee, which ranged from $10 to $40.

Some 950,000 taxpayers filed electronically last year, either on their own or through a tax preparer. If the taxpayer is entitled to a refund and chooses to receive it through electronic deposit, it will only take five business days to get money back.

The service is not available to first-time tax filers and those claiming certain tax credits for development and technology zones and historic rehabilitation.

It's also not available to those who file schedules C, D, E or F to cover income on things like stocks and capital gains.
