WI Medicare Ranking

Wisconsin has improved its ranking among states on its treatment of Medicare patients.

A new government report says those using Medicare overall are getting better treatment than they did several years ago for breast cancer, diabetes, heart attacks and other health problems.

Wisconsin improved its ranking from 11th to eighth among 52 states and territories.

MetaStar of Madison oversees Medicare quality improvement for the federal government. MetaStar president Greg Simmons says Wisconsin did better on 18 of 22 indicators because health care providers have been working hard to improve treatment.

The study appears Wednesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
