Most boaters know the basics about boat safety; go slow, everyone needs a lifejacket, and use common sense.
But boat inspectors from the PowersQuadron Club were at Lake Wausau boat landings offering free inspections.
Inspectors say most fisherman don't know some of the detailed safety tips of boater safety.
Every boater should carry a horn or whistle to signal other boaters in an emergency, and all boats should have lights on board, even if they aren't planning on being out at night.
Many of the fishermen we spoke with said they were glad to have the free inspection, just to make sure they were doing the right things all along.
Those who passed the inspection received a first aid kit for the boat, courtesy of the Kiwanis of Greater Wausau.
